Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai on Saturday said the Indian Constitution has played a crucial role in keeping the country united and strong through every crisis. He made the statement while inaugurating new advocate chambers and a multi-level parking facility at the Allahabad High Court.
Referring to the drafting of the Constitution, CJI Gavai recalled how some had called it too federal while others felt it was too unitary. Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he said the Constitution was designed to balance both tendencies, and it is this flexibility that has helped India survive and grow despite challenges.
He added that while neighbouring countries struggle, India has been steadily progressing on the path of development since independence — something he attributed to the vision embedded in the Constitution. “It is the Constitution that has kept India united and strong, both in peace and during wars,” he said.
Highlighting the role of all pillars of democracy, he emphasized the fundamental duty of institutions — legislature, executive, and judiciary — to ensure justice reaches the last citizen.
